Abstract:Phragmitis Rhizoma (PR) was first recorded in Ming Yi Bie Lu, which recorded that "it has a sweet and cold taste, and is mainly used to treat thirst, fever, and urinary incontinence". It has a long history of use in China and is an essential herb for the treatment of warm and feverish diseases in traditional Chinese medicine. Modern research has shown that PR are rich in chemical components and have a wide range of pharmacological effects. They mainly contain compounds such as polysaccharides, organic acids, steroids, terpenoids, and alkaloids, and have pharmacological effects such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and immune regulation. They are one of the main medicinal flavors of the "Xuanfei Baidu Fang". However, the 2020 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia lacks a content determination item in the quality standard for PR, which is not conducive to the quality control of reed roots. So this article reviewed the studies about chemical constituents and pharmacological effects of PR. According to the concept of quality marker (Q-marker) of traditional Chinese medicine, Q-Markers of PR were predicted and analyzed from the aspects of plant phylogenetic relationship, traditional medicinal properties, evidence of effectiveness, network pharmacology and measurability of the chemical compositions. The results shows that total polysaccharides, ferulic acid, tricin, oleanolic acid, and stigmasterol can be taken as the main Q-Markers, which would provide a basis for the material basis of the medicinal effect and the quality standard enhancement of PR. |
